    Relationship between time management and academic performance for primary schools: The case study of Morogoro municipality,

    The research aimed to examine the relationship between time management and academic performance by studying time wasters, motivation, absenteeism rate and procrastination and understand how they affect primary schools academic performance. The research was a case study design covering Morogoro Municipality. A sample size of 70 respondents was obtained by using stratified, purposive and accidental techniques of which both primary and secondary data were collected by using interview, questionnaire and documentary review and analyzed both quantitatively and qualitatively. The data were collected from teachers, students and head teachers from selected primary schools, MMC Officers, and Parents. The results revealed that, presence of time wasters to the teachers and students, absentees and late comers for both teachers and students, the behavior of procrastinating school activities, ineffectiveness in supervision by education officers, teachers and parents, lack of adherence to schools’ rules and regulations and also lack of motivation especially to the teachers, have contributed to the poor teaching and learning performance for teachers and students respectively, in primary schools at MM. The study recommends, for example, the teachers should set their individual goals from school targets of which will help them focusing on achieving those goals so as schools targets; as for the students, it is important for them to be self-disciplined, also reallocation of teachers and students to the nearby schools from home to reduce absenteeism rate and late coming, The parents are also recommended to provide necessary school items for their children, dedicate their time to monitor children’s progress at school and their behavior after school hours, and communicate to the teachers for effective supervision. Moreover, for further study a comprehensive research should be conducted on other areas of the country so as to broaden the knowledge of the importance of time management in academic performance.

    Impact of time management and work performance in local government authorities.

    This research is on examining the impact of time management on work performance, a case study Musoma Municipal Council in Mara region. The specific objectives of this study were to find out if there are time management techniques at Musoma municipal council, to find out if there are time wasters at Musoma municipal council, to find out if there is any relationship between time management and work performance at Musoma municipal council, and to find ways that can improve employees time management at Musoma municipal council. The research design used was the case study whereby a single unit was selected. The total sample of 93 of the respondents was selected and the techniques used to obtain the sample were purposive sampling, stratified sampling and accidental sampling. The primary and secondary data were collected through the use of different data collection methods such as, questionnaire, interview, documentary review, and observation. The major findings of this study revealed that, employees of Musoma municipal council they are not aware with the potentialities of managing time at the work place. The techniques of time management showed that employees do not practice what they know, which influenced poor performance of tasks. Delaying of information and interruption at the workplace has been identified as superior factors that cause employees to waste their time. The respondents who were invited in the study provide the suggestion on the ways that can improve time management of the employees in Musoma municipal council such as, introducing time management seminars, establishing strong management control tool effective rewards system and reduction of the bureaucratic system. The researcher recommended that, the government should implement the e-service policy in order to reduce the long protocol that causes the delay of feedbacks and to establish time management policy and rules that can help to sharp the behavior of employees.
