Item The influence of financial literacy on the performance of small business processors of cereals in Morogoro Municipal Council(Mzumbe University, 2019) Godfrey, JustoFinancial literacy among the small business processors of cereals is increasingly drawing attention over business performance. Small business processors of cereals are obliged by restricted or limited knowledge, skills and ability to use financial sources for required business expansion. This study assessed the influence of financial literacy on performance of small business processors of cereals in Tanzania: The case study of Morogoro Municipality. This study used a cross-sectional structure that encourages and manages the accumulation of information at a single point in time. The sample size was 93 which were randomly chosen by the entire population. The purposive testing was utilized to choose 3 WEOs out of 15 WEOs and pioneers to give some official data on the influence of financial literacy on the performance of small business processors of cereal in Morogoro Municipality. The finding shows that, small business processors of cereals do not keep business record because of low education level as majority had primary education level. The loan was mostly utilized as one of the financial services and financial advice on the other hand was utilized as non-financial services. The small business processors of cereals produce 20,001-25,000 tons of cereals annually. The processed cereals take 21-30 days in which 9,000,100 -11,000,000 Tshs of sales are generated annually. These indicate the existence of poor performance for small business processors of cereals. The relationship between financial literacy and the performance of small business of cereals processors observed on the knowledge on recording, separating business profit and preparation of financial report. In order to improve performance of small business processors of cereals there is a need to provide financial literacy in terms of skills and knowledge. Financial institutions need to support small business processors of cereals in terms of loan, business advice and training to enhance credit accessibility, business advice and training towards the performance of small business processors of cerealsItem The role of social media on small/medium business performance: A case of Kinondoni Municipal, Dar es Salaam city(Mzumbe University, 2019) Kihombo, BeatriceThis dissertation had a general goal of finding the role of social media on small and medium business performance for the case of Kinondoni municipal, Dar es Salaam city. The sample size was in total 94 respondents which included 84 small/medium business owner managers and 10 customers. This study used both primary and secondary data whereby primary data were collected from the respondents through questionnaire (open and close ended) and interview guide (structured interview). Secondary data was collected through documentary reviews where different journals, past researches, theories, some books and publications related to this study were used. Respondents included small/medium clothing shops, cosmetics shops, mobile accessories shops, make-up shops, home appliances shops and food stuff shops owner managers; customers who engage into business exchange with small/medium businesses through social media. This means that, the study was achieved through a comprehensive study on Small/medium business owner-managers and the customers at Kinondoni municipal. The study found out that social media plays an important role in improving the general performance of the business through increasing the number of customers, profit maximization, increase sales growth, product awareness and enhance brand image. On the other hand, risk and insecurity, poor feedback from customers, limited internet access, costs and information control were the core challenges facing the small/medium business owner managers. For the case of customers, these were the challenges they faced; poor customer care, lack of trust, counterfeited goods, limited access to business pages, sometimes no refund or exchange for the product. The study concluded that an effective use of social media plays a great role on the general performance of small and medium businesses. The performance of the small and medium businesses with social media can be measured using indicators such as increase/decrease of sales growth, increase/decrease of profit margins, increase/decrease of number of customers, and high/low costs. It recommended that the small/medium business owner managers should improve the customer care to their customers and due to some methodological limitations; a future research is recommended to apply qualitative form so as to discover an in deepness understanding of the cause and effect relationship between the variables.Item The influence of branding on consumer buying behaviour: A case of Kinondoni municipality(Mzumbe university, 2015) Mwambusi, Rose LwitikoBranding plays a crucial role to boost up any business performance, is an implied tool which can positively change people’s buying behaviors. In Present marketing scenario, the Study of Consumer Behavior has become essential. Consumers are the kings of markets. Without consumers no business organization can run. All the activities of the business concerns end with consumers and consumer satisfaction. Customer behavior study is based on consumer buying behavior, with the customer playing the three distinct roles of user, payer and buyer. Consumer buying behavior has become an integral part of strategic market planning. The study presented into five chapters the introduction, literature review, research methodology, presentation of the research findings, data analysis and discussion, and summary, conclusion and recommendations. The objectives of the study focus on examine influence of branding on consumer buying behavior, to find out if consumer buying behavior are influenced by factors such as premium price of branded goods, perceived quality of branded goods, social status and brand name associated with the consumption of brand in Kinondoni municipality and the study will base on three industry mobile phones, drinks and electronics. Questionnaire survey, interview and observation were used to collect the data. A sample of 110 questionnaires was used in which 106 responses were collected within the period of one month. Findings show that branding has strong positive influence and significant relationship with Consumer buying behavior.Item Assessment of the impact of individual loan Provided by commercial banks to entrepreneurs: A case study of selected commercial banks in Tabora town(Mzumbe University, 2016) William, AlexShortage of access to finance has been identified as one of the major constraints of small business growth. One of the alternative way to solve this problem of capital, are loans access from financial institutions. This work was intended to find out the impact of the individual loan to entrepreneurs in Tabora town. The specific objectives were to find out how loans provided by commercial banks were used by the entrepreneurs, to examine the business performance after loan utilization, to assess the outcome of the loan amount provided to entrepreneurs. The research employed case study design. The study used 91 respondents who are loan beneficiaries from commercial banks. It employed probability sampling, primary data were collected using questionnaires and observations, and documentary review for secondary data. Data were analyzed by using SPSS. The result findings revealed that most of the respondents who obtained loans from commercial banks in Tabora town agreed loan had brought positive changes in their business performance, expanded and improved their entrepreneurial activities, and nongenerating income activities, profit increased, employments were created, household poverty level decreased, economic position was raised and others. The study concluded that the role of commercial banks toward entrepreneur’s success is absolutely important because there are positive effects on performance of their business in terms of sales revenues, physical assets, and financial assets among others. It was recommended that, commercial banks should provide fair loan amounts by looking monthly sales and other entrepreneur's incomes, commercial bank should provide management training to entrepreneurs before providing loans, entrepreneurs should seek business knowledge from training institution and others, and loan should beutilized for business purpose and not for other uses.
